Every student plays and sings and composes. We have music tuition in piano, brass, woodwind, guitar, ukulele, drums. We have wonderful traditional musicians, a woodwind band, a ukulele orchestra, a choir and the Singing' Sisters. We sing carols for Christmas, perform in the wholeschool production and enter Choir of the Year. We have Shimna OldScholars studying music, playing music, loving music and we have Shimna Community Choir for staff, parents/guardians and friends
We have performance art at A level and GCSE drama, and each group performs several times a year for student and parent/guardian audiences. Last year our drama students headlined at 'Big Stories, Little Stories', at the NICIE 35th Anniversary event in the Ulster Museum. At an Integrated school you can expect to play football, gaelic, hockey, camogie, hurling, netball, rugby, basketball, cricket, track and field athletics, cross country, climbing, orienteering, hill walking. You can also expect to dance and jump about, go camping, walk the Mournes, canoe, abseil, go bouldering, coasteering and everything else we can think of...
Roots and Shoots
Our beautiful surroundings are very important to us, and our Roots and Shoots group works hard to make sure we foster the wildlife who share our site and the mountains, forest and coast beside us. We have achievd our Bronze and Silver Eco School Awards, our Level 5 RHS Gardening Award and our Gold Tree Planting Award. We have also won the Adopt a Spot Award....
